The Colours of Canada: One Game, Many Stories

The Colours of Canada: One Game, Many Stories

  • For the first time, the FIFA World Cup arrives in Canada, transforming cities into global stages. Beyond the matches, The Colours of Canada: One Game, Many Stories documents the lived experiences of fans across the country during the tournament.

Through a cast of real participants filmed in their everyday environments, the documentary captures how individuals connect to the World Cup through personal histories shaped by heritage, migration, and national identity. As the competition unfolds in real time, participants navigate questions of allegiance and belonging: Who do you support when your identity spans multiple places? What does it mean to be a fan when the world arrives at your doorstep? Who do you support when your country doesn’t participate?

Set in public viewing spaces, and private homes, the film explores how fandom operates as a social and cultural practice,  revealing moments of connection, tension, and self-definition that reflect the diversity of contemporary Canada.
