Candombe, officially awarded the title of Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, originates from African slaves who were brought to Uruguay and found relief in music they could easily play in their daily lives. Intensely mesmerizing, it is a music style that is characterized by heavy percussion with changing fiery rhythms, and folk dances to accompany it. It lived on in Uruguay, and Uruguayan immigrants in Canada brought it to Montreal, where it has since become gift to further enrich our Canadian heritage. This documentary explores its origins and how its tradition is kept alive in Canada today.
